Air-compressing fuel injection engine using methanol - has small pilot fuel volume injected shortly before main volume, while ignition assistance device is active

The engine has a nozzle for injection of fuel, which is resistant to auto-ignition, esp. methanol, into a combustion chamber. It also has a device for ignition assistance, to ignite the methanol. A small pilot volume injection of fuel into the combustion chamber (3), takes place shortly before the main volume is injected, and while the ignition assistance device is active. The device consists of an electrical spark plug, which is active only for the pilot volume. It may consist of a heater plug (9), and the injected pilot volume jet touches it tangentially. USE/ADVANTAGE - Air-compressing fuel injection engine running on methanol gives stability of combustion, esp. at low RPM/load, and reduced energy requirements for ignition.
