New siloxane derivs. of dicyclopentadiene, contg. quat. ammonium gps., have formula (I), where Y = lower alkyl or Ph; Z = Y or (Y)3SiO; m = 0-49; n = 1-50; m:n = 0-10; A = -O- or -OOC-; R1 = (CH2)r, -(CH2CH2O)r-(CH2)r, -(CH2CH2CH2O)r-(CH2)r, -CH2CH(OH)-CH2 or -(CH2)r-OOC-CH2; r = 1-10; B = -NR2R3R4 or gp. of formula (i); R2, R3, R4 = 1-4C (hydroxy)alkyl. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are used in prodn. of tensides. (I) have a wider range of use, and can be adapted to different applns. They are sol. in water and less polar organic solvents, and retain their strong surface activity.
