Head=up display for motor vehicle - uses prism and reflector arrangement to direct light from display surface and eliminate stray light effects

The display has an upwardly inclined display surface, i.e. the windscreen, a prism (11) with a vertical angle defined by two surfaces facing the driver, one surface being opposite the display surface, a second prism (12) and a reflector. The second prism with essentially the same vertical angle as the first is arranged with its vertical angle opposite that of the first prism. The reflector (4a) reflects light from the surface via the prisms to an observation point (5). A base surface of the second prism is made matt and coated with a dark colouring. ADVANTAGE - Stray light reaching the display is controlled. High quality images are produced without ghosting.
