The description relates to a liquid crystal display comprising a liquid crystal substance (14) inserted between two triggering electrodes (12a, 12b). The triggering electrodes are fitted on a transparent base plate (16a, 16b) and each base plate has a polariser (18a, 18b) on the side away from the liquid crystal substance. The liquid crystal substance consists of a liquid crystal mixture suitable for super-twisted nematic, double-layer STN and optical mode interference liquid crystal display. The use of this kind of liquid crystal display in motor vehicles and a reduction in the switching time are made possible by the invention by means of a transparent thin-film heater (20) arranged in the liquid crystal cell.
