Device contains a selective reduction catalyst for nitrogen oxides, particularly in the exhaust gases from heavy vehicle diesel engines, with temperature dependent addition of NH3 or NH3 release agents into the catalyst feed-gas stream. The reduction catalyst (1) is connected into a following oxidation catalyst (4). USE/ADVANTAGE - Prevention of emission of NH3 residues in an NOx emission control system, particularly for diesel engines, where ammonia is injected into the exhaust gas upstream of a reduction catalyst, by use of an oxidative tailing catalyst.
