The rear view mirror has a reflecting plate (4) and a housing (2) with a frontal seat (5) to receive the plate. This also serves as the connection with the bodywork by a carrier arm (3). The housing has supports (10a, 10b) on the perimeter which serve for the introduction of the plate into the seat. They also work with the plate to make possible and adjustment into a second position, the in-use position, whereby the mirror has springs (24) which act against the plate to keep it in the second position. ADVANTAGE - Rear view mirror having a housing which does not exert undue loads on the reflecting plate.
