<p>A computer system [100] comprising a removable optical disk [10, 300, 600] having active circuitry [302, 304] thereon and a disk player [102] is disclosed. The optical disk [300] includes a storage medium [12, 101] for storing data on one side and active circuitry [302, 304] for processing the data on the other side. The disk cartridge [300] includes most of the high speed components of the computer system [100], while the disk player [102] includes those components which are least likely to change over time. By combining the active circuitry [302, 304] with the data and programs to be processed thereby on a single disk cartridge [300], the problems associated with maintaining and configuring the system are substantially reduced compared to prior art systems.</p> |
