The rooted broadcast tree data communications network, (suitable for use as a high speed local area network), allows the use of synchronous point to point transmission channels; provides for transmissions of maximum permissible length; employs a multiple access technique in which a station or hub sends a transmission toward the root hub of the network only when the network hub to which it is attached solicits the transmission by use of an RTS/CTS protocol; allows CTS transmissions to be made in the downward broadcast path; provides fair, deterministic access to the network by station adapters; provides for the detection and elimination of network traffic loops; provides a practical way of increasing network availability by introducing redundant network devices and redundant connections between them; and allows transparent bridges to distinguish and discard their own transmissions received from the network. <IMAGE> |
