The spindle (13), mounted vertically in a bearing assembled from a ball-race (21) and a surrounding sleeve (20) between upper and lower flanges (22,23) in respective radial bearings (28,29), is rotatable but axially immovable w.r.t. a linear drive (30) such as a double-acting piston/cylinder unit (31) with reed switches (38,39). The bearing is coupled to a pinion (18) which engages teeth on the piston rod of the pneumatic rotary drive (40). USE/ADVANTAGE - The torque-transmitting axially movable bearing reduces the vertically moving mass, and with a third cylinder an intermediate position within the angle of rotation is attainable.
