Increasing flexibility of sintered PVC prods., esp. battery separators - by treating with plasticiser and heating to gelation
摘要
A process for increasing the flexibility of sintered prods. (I) made of vinyl chloride polymers (PVC) comprises contacting with a plasticiser (II) and heating to gelation. Also claimed are sintered PVC mouldings with elongation at break above 20 (pref. 25-60)% and specific resistance below 12 ohm.cm. Pref. (I) is made of vinyl chloride homopolymer or copolymer contg. up to 30% comonomer in the form of a moulding with wall thickness up to 3 mm. (I) is treated with 10-60 (pref. 15-35) wt.% (II) and heated at 80-120 deg.C. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are useful as battery separators (claimed). The process enables the flexibility of (I) to be increased without adversely affecting porosity or resistance.
