PURPOSE: To provide an airfoil sail for a sailboat and an airfoil sail whose length-adjustable masts can be individually raised or reefed. CONSTITUTION: An airfoil sail is comprised of several telescoping pipes 12, 18 and 20 having a sail covering whole vertical spacings between crossbeams 44, 48 and 52 which support the pipes. Each of the crossbeams is comprised of several horizontal crossbeam sections connected to each other by vertical hinge shafts and jointly corresponding to a symmetric airfoil. The crossbeams are pivotable by a motor adjustment drive for curvatures optimally matching the wind conditions. |
