摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To urge the driver's attention as required for safety driving by calculating the estimated lateral acceleration with the radius of curvature of a road in front of a vehicle and the vehicle speed, and comparing it with the threshold value determined by the turning capability. CONSTITUTION:A navigation controller 9 receives the data of the position and travel direction of a vehicle from a locator device 8 at every fixed travel distance or travel time and searches a road in the front direction, i.e., multiple links (connecting coordinate positions and nodes specifying the intersections of the road) within the preset distance are obtained. Radiuses of curvature are calculated from the distances and bearings of the links, the minimum radius is selected among them, and it is determined as the radius of curvature of the front road. The lateral acceleration of the road is calculated based on the output of a distance sensor 4, and it is compared with the threshold value determined by the turning capability of the vehicle. When the calculated lateral acceleration exceeds the threshold value, it is judged dangerous to turn the curve at the present speed, and a warning is given to the driver via a buzzer or the like.</p>
