The invention makes it possible rapidly and easily to wind up one or more cables of great length. It comprises, in a casing (6), reels (10) on which cables (2) are wound up. An electric motor (12) drives the shaft (8) in rotation, the latter itself driving the reels (10) in rotation by virtue of temporary blocking devices (16). A distribution (wire-guiding) device makes it possible to wind up each cable (2) in a uniform manner about its reel. The apparatus applies particularly to the measurement of earth-connection resistance as well as to the measurement of coupling of these earth connections.
