Process for obtaining a silica sol dispersed in a C1-C3 alkanol containing, by weight, less than 1% water and up to 50% silica in the form of discrete particles with a mean diameter of between 5 and 100 nm, not bonded to each other by siloxane bonds, in which process an aqueous silica sol containing up to 50% silica in the form of discrete particles with a mean diameter of between 5 and 100 nm, not bonded to each other by siloxane bonds, is mixed at room temperature with at least one part by weight, with respect to the aqueous silica sol, of the corresponding C1-C3 alkanol and then this mixture is subjected to a pervaporation at a temperature less than or equal to 80@C until a dispersion containing, by weight, less than 1% water is obtained, silica sol and use in obtaining compositions intended for coating organic glasses.
