A hypodermic syringe (1) wherein there is included a spring biased, locking push button apparatus exterior the plunger (18) which communicates with a locking safety sheath (19) situated at the base of the hypodermic needle (6) prior to activation. The safety sheath is in sliding, longitudinal communication about the needle, and is activated to its sheathing position by pressing a push button (23) on the locking push button apparatus, directing the sheath (19) from about the base of the needle to over the tip (7) of the needle (6). Upon communication with the tip, the safety sheath deploys a locking hatch (30), preventing the urging of the sheath (19) back to the base, and rendering the needle unreuseable. The present invention operates independently of the syringe plunger (9), allowing the drawing and injection of fluids without interference, and is sheathed in locking position urging of the push button (23), "clicking" the sheath (19) into a locked position. <IMAGE> |
