The cutting mechanism (4) cuts the waste to granulate size, and the granulate then falls into an accommodation area (7a) of the disinfection worm (9) which has a heated pocket (12). In this area the granulate is dried. The steam flows via a bypass (6) into an accommodation container for suction (19a) to a filter unit (20). After the complete load has been granulated, and is in the disinfection area, sliders (5,5a) close in a fluid-tight manner. Steam is fed via nozzles (10a) into the disinfection area, causing the granulate to rotate, and this process continues until the air is impelled out of the worm via the bypass (6). A further drying process takes place and the waste is then disposed of by pressing and transport. USE/ADVANTAGE - To disinfect and sterilise contaminated hospital waste.
