Timing method for hump shunting operation - uses speeds of different length rakes of trucks to determine delivery times into sidings

In a preceding dummy run, each rake is considered both as a well- and as a badly-running unit. The pushing speed is determined from the difference between the times required for release and delivery into particular sidings. A speed pattern is established for the actual times required from passing a datum point at or near the crest of the hump to reaching all the sidings, for different lengths of rakes. From this the maximum travel speed for delivery to the sidings and the corresponding minimum speed for release are calculated, and used to control handling of subsequent rakes of different types.
