In order to obtain a simple, space-saving thread-clamping device for retaining at least one thread (29, 30) in a textile machine that allows any desired number of threads to be clampled, a clamping ribbon device (1) has at leat one ribbon (7, 8) for clamping the threads (29, 30) whose travel is controllable. A process for clamping at least one thread in a textile machine allows a compact, simple design to be obtained and any desired number of clamping processes to be carried out. The thread (29, 30) to be clampled is laid on or into a clamping ribbon device (1) having at least one ribbon (7, 8) for clamping the threads (29, 30), then at least one ribbon (7, 8) is moved over a predetermined distance. The clamping device (1) may cooperate or be provided with thread supply hooks (11, 12) and cutting arrangements (15).
