The display instrument has a numeral plate with a background and contrasting markers and/or alphanumeric indicators. To achieve a clear display in adequate external light conditions the markers are dark, pref. black, and the plate background is buff or light grey to pure white. In the illuminated state the markers are dark, pref. black, whilst the background is lit in red to violet or is luminous in red to violet. ADVANTAGE - Good legibility of markers and text is ensured under all lighting conditions with minimal night dazzle when display is lit.
