As the plastics pipe softens when exposed to heat the first (13) of two bulkheads (13, 15) screens off this pipe before the second bulkhead (15) acts. This second bulkhead only screens the plastics pipe after it has been exposed to increased amount of heat. The two bulkheads are mounted in a sleeve (12) so that the first bulkhead is nearer the centre of the partition than the second. As the plastics pipe is closed at the first bulkhead a section of it is open towards the fire or heat source so that the heat can reach the relevant section of the second bulkhead quicker. The sleeve has fasteners (14, 16) for attaching the device to the outside of the partition wall (10). ADVANTAGE - Quick-action fire protection. Where other elements, like a spring, are provided, they are protected from heat.
