A fault control method is provided wherein multiplex nodes (10, 11, 12) are connected to buses (A, B, C), and a fault detecting node 12 among the multiplex nodes detects abnormality of the individual multiplex nodes and the individual buses, and sets the potential of a control line C which is one of the buses, to change the states of the buses for fault detection. Upon detecting a communication error, the fault detecting node detects the present state of bus connection (transmission mode), and changes the state of the control line C based on the type of the detected communication error and the detected transmission mode by operating a control circuit 23, to thereby cause each node to select the buses.
