The method involves determining, before recording begins, whether the recording of the information is to be conducted in coded or non-coded form. For coded recording an individual identifier is entered which effects individual encoding of the information during recording. The decoding of the encoded information on the reproduction side proceeds only after the individual identifier used during the recording has been entered. USE/ADVANTAGE - Primarily for encoding and decoding of audio and/or video signals in entertainments machines. Permits only authorised persons to achieve decoding, yet does not completely block so that availability is possible at any time.
