Desirable latex characteristics are maintained while eliminating dilatancy by including a sufficient amount of at least one non-polymerizable compound having at least one moiety selected from the group consisting of hydroxyl, amine, thiol, and mixtures thereof in the reaction medium used in the latex emulsion polymerization process. |
