A compact disc (CD) is rotated by a stepping motor (M) and operates in a search mode to locate a specific position on the disc. A start pulse is generated for a pulse shaper (IP) and a control unit (Vst) is coupled to a camera (VK) directed onto the disc. The digital camera signal is entered into a line memory (VO). A motor control (MSt) generates pulses to the video controller and to the motor. A correlator (VDR) compares actual and reference line signals and the process is repeated until the required location is identified. A memory (RAM) addressed by an angle counter (WZ) stores the angular position locations on the disc.
