The locking device is for a dental prosthesis, having a housing on the prosthesis and a mounting for it permanently secured to the jaw. A flat wedge-shaped locking member sliding at right angles to the direction of jaw movement fits in openings in both, while a boss on the mounting fits in a recess in the housing to prevent prosthesis movement in the transverse direction. When installed, the faces towards each other (22,46) of housing (2) and mounting (4) are close and parallel to each other, at least at the openings (23,45) and at right angles to the jaw. The guide (26) in the housing opening determines the movement direction of the locking member (1), which is in the bucco-labial and sagittal direction in relation to the mounting. The face (12) of the member towards the mounting is parallel to that (46) of the latter on insertion.
