Agents for the control of algae and moss contain an alkylaminophosphonic acid ester (I) or salt and conventional adjuvants and carriers. In (I), R1 is 1-4C alkyl; and R2 = 1-4(6)C alkyl. (I) is pref. 1-butylamino-cyclohexanephosphonic acid di-n-butyl ester (butinafos), 1-methylamino-cyclohexanephosphonic acid dihexyl ester or their hydrochloride. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are herbicides. In contrast to known products such as benzalkonium chloride, diuron, amitrole, polyquat, and MCPA, (I) have low mammalian toxicity and are readiyl degraded without leaving toxic residues in soil. Thus, seeding or planting can be carried out immediately after the agents have been used.
