<p>Apparatus for maintaining a predetermined level of liquid in a container (10), comprising means (60, 64) for feeding liquid into the container at a rate such that liquid overflows from the container through an overflow outlet (11) at a position corresponding to the desired level of liquid in the container, and a reservoir (14) arranged to receive at least part of the liquid flowing from the overflow outlet and having an outlet (19) through which liquid flows continuously from the reservoir, and means for detecting when the liquid in the reservoir falls below a predetermined level. This is particularly useful for maintaining the level of ink in a printing machine in which the container is used to apply ink to an adjacent roll (12). The detecting means may comprise a standpipe (84) and a conducting probe (90); a capactive proximity sensor switch; or positive and negative electrodes. <IMAGE></p> |
