PURPOSE:To obtain the NOx purifying device having excellent durability at a high temp. under oxygen excess by introducing exhaust gases to the outer periphery, of a hollow base body consisting of stabilized zirconia and impressing a voltage to a platinum electrode provided on the base body. CONSTITUTION:The exhaust gases 3 from the engine of an automobile flows through an oxidizing catalyst 2 at need into a permeation and sepn. module 4. The exhaust gases flowing into this module 4 are separated mainly to gaseous O2 10 which permeates a separating and decomposing membrane (hollow membrane consisting of the stabilized zirconia) 6 and non-permeated gases 11 consisting essentially of NO, HC and CO. Platinum coating films 8 and 9 are formed on the inside and outside surfaces of the hollow stabilized zirconia film 4 and a voltage is impressed thereto. Then, the non-permeated gases come into contact with the surfaces of the stabilized zirconia film in the module and are subjected to a contact effect there, by which, for example, NO is cracked to N2. |
