PURPOSE:To enable an AC-excited synchronous machine to be started smoothly without increasing the capacity of a frequency converter, by DC-exciting the AC-excited synchronous machine through using the output of one phase of the frequency converter for AC-exciting, and by supplying an AC electric power having a variable frequency to the AC-excited synchronous machine through using the outputs of the other two phases of the frequency converter, when starting the AC-excited synchronous machine. CONSTITUTION:When starting an AC-excited synchronous machine 1, switching apparatuses 4a, 4b, 4c, 6c, 8 are open-circuited, and switching apparatuses 7a1, 7b1, 7c1, 9c are closed-circuited. Thereby, a DC electric power is supplied from an output (C) of a frequency converter 5 to primary windings 1s of the AC- excited synchronous machine 1, and an AC electric power having a variable frequency is supplied from outputs (A), (B) of the frequency converter 5 to secondary windings 1r of the machine 1. Thereby, the AC-excited synchronous machine 1 is started and is accelerated as a synchronous machine. Thereby, when starting the AC-excited synchronous machine 1, connection of the outputs of the frequency converter are modified safely, and the machine 1 can be started smoothly without increasing the capacity of the frequency converter. |
