PURPOSE: To improve a laser beam knife by providing a single crystal diamond layer having a surface for the incoming light and a surface for the outgoing light in a passage for a beam of light, and applying an anti-reflective coating on the surface. CONSTITUTION: A beam of light is passed in a passage. A single crystal diamond layer 16 is positioned in the passage so as to intercept the light passing down the passage. The diamond layer 16 has a surface for the incoming light and a surface for the outgoing light. An anti-reflective coating 18 is applied on at least one of the surfaces of the single crystal diamond layer 16. The anti- reflective coating 18 is formed of either silicon nitride, silicon oxygen-nitride, silicon carbide or silicon oxide. The beam of light is a laser beam. The anti- reflective coating 18 is bonded to the single crystal diamond through a thin layer of diamond containing a small amount of silicon. Sharp cutting can be obtained thereby. |
