METHOD FOR CELL FUSION AND ITS APPARATUS

PURPOSE:To enable cell fusion operation without any fear of damaging an isolated cell by improving a microelectrode method related to the cell fusion and freely enabling the adhesion and release of an optional isolated cell. CONSTITUTION:A needlelike electrode 1 is concentrically inserted into a tubular insulating cover 3 and a microgap (G) is provided between both. A small hole (3b) is formed in the tip of the insulating cover 3. The resultant needlelike electrode 1 is opposite to a platy electrode 2 and an AC voltage is applied to attract and stick the isolated cell (a) and an isolated cell (b) not shown in the figure by an induction electrophoresis phenomenon. A DC pulse is then applied to fuse the isolated cells (a) to (b) and the application of the AC voltage is cancelled to eliminate the fused cell for release.
