<p>PURPOSE:To improve the wettability with molten Al and prevent the contamination of the molten Al by binding aggregate particles by an inorg. binder contg. specific ratios of B2O3, Al2O3 and SiO2. CONSTITUTION:The filter medium for molten aluminum metal is formed by binding the aggregate particles consisting of >=1 kinds of sintered alumina, electromolten alumina, silicon carbide, and silicon nitride with the inorg. binder. The inorg. binder consisting of 15 to 40wt.% B2O3, 20 to 45% Al2O3, 15 to 25% SiO2 and the balance >=1 kinds of MgO, CaO and SrO is used at 4 to 20 pts.wt. per 100 pt. aggregate. The length of the acicular crystal of 9Al2O3.2B2O3 formed in the inorg. binder is preferably <=10mum. The oil flowability of the molten aluminum metal is stabilized and the contamination of the molten aluminum metal by free silicon is obviated.</p> |
