PURPOSE:To suppress howling with the frequency characteristic which does not have a large influence upon hearing by controlling the frequency characteristic of a howling suppressing means even in the case of close proximity among plural frequencies which are apt to bring about howling. CONSTITUTION:This device is provided with a microphone 1 which gathers sounds produced in a reproducing place, an A/D converter 2 which converts an input signal to a digital signal, a howling suppressing means 6 which suppresses howling, and a howling detecting means 7 which detects howling by the signal from the A/D converter 2. In addition, the howling suppressing device consists of the following means, an arithmetic means 8 which calculates the coefficient of a digital filter to be set to the howling suppressing means in accordance with the signal from the howling detecting means 7, and a control means which sets the coefficient to the howling suppressing means 6. Frequencies which are apt to bring about howling are detected, and the characteristic of the digital filter is changed to eliminate howling frequency components, thereby extending the howling margin in the state of less tone quality change. |
