This invention relates to a process for the preparation of a granular detergent composition intended for washing fabrics in a washing machine which comprises a surfactant, a thickening agent and cellulase, and is found in a "compact" form, that is having a density of between 550 and 950 g of composition/litre and contains not more than 15% by weight of inorganic filler salt in comparison with conventional detergent compositions. The cellulase brings about at least 10% removal of immobilised carboxymethyl cellulose radioactively labelled using the C14 CMC method at 25 x 10-6% by weight of cellulase protein in the washing test solution.
