The invention relates to a method for joining together a first web end E1 and a second web end E2, in which method the web ends E1, E2 that are to be joined together are firmly held by means of suction, the said web ends E1, E2 opposing one another with an overlap whilst they are being joined together. In the method the first web end E1 is fastened to a first suction bar 11, the second web end E2 is carried over a second suction bar 12, and the second suction bar 12 is moved towards the first suction bar 11, the first web end E1 and the second web end E2 opposing one another with an overlap and the web ends E1, E2 being fastened together from the areas in which they oppose one another with an overlap in order to produce an overlapping joint. The invention also relates to a method for joining together a first web end E1 and a second web end E2, in which method the web ends E1, E2 that are to be joined together are firmly held by means of suction, the said web ends E1, E2 opposing one another with an overlap whilst they are being joined together. In the method the first web end E1 is fastened to a first suction bar 11, the second web end E2 is carried over a second suction bar 12, and the second suction bar 12 is moved towards the first suction bar 11, the first web end E1 and the second web end E2 opposing one another with an overlap and the web ends E1, E2 being cut from a cutting point and the overlapping parts S1, S2 being removed, the web ends E1, E2 being fastened to one another from the area of the cutting point in order to produce a joint with the ends facing one another. <IMAGE>
