An iron oxide for magnetic material is prepared by (a) charging iron oxide particle, having 2-3 mm diameters obtained from fluidized roasting furnace in rolling process of steel making factory, into conventional coarse crusher (eg. roller mill), (b) coarse crushing the particles into less than 0.5 mm average diameters, (c) charging the crushed iron oxide particles into a conventional fine grinder (eg. vibration mill) having balls and bars, and (d) fine grinding the crushed particles into 3 μm average diameters maintaining the temperature to 40-50 deg.C. Then the obtained magnetic iron oxide has high magnetic permeability, residual magnetization and coersive force.
