A method of acoustic recognition comprises comparing each of a set of acoustic events with itself and other events in the set to develop a matrix of comparison scores indicative of the degree of confusion between events in the set. The events are ranked for deletion from or substitution in the set by summing rows or columns of the matrix, the identity of confusing events being determined by subtracting their comparison scores from the summed rows or columns to establish total comparison scores, then comparing the total comparison scores. |
