<p>Membranes for waterproofing submerged devices are described. A membrane is produced by means of a sandwich construction consisting of an inner sheet (203) made of a metal such as aluminium, and two outer sheets (201, 202) made of a polymeric material such as polyethylene. The intrinsic watertightness of the metal substantially improves the watertightness of the membrane. The metal sheet may be 10 νm thick and the polymeric sheets several tens of νm thick. In this way, underwater acoustic devices may be made competely watertight.</p> |
