The drafting zone on a ringspinning frame has a driveshaft to each of the bottom rollers. These work in conjunction with top pressure rollers to draw the roving into yarn. They are driven by a motor in the headstock, and at different speeds, selected by a gearing system. The middle rollers have a shaft which is sepd., driven in the headstock by usual gears, and at the far end by means of another style of gearing, connected to the input roller driveshaft. The motor pref. has a belt connection to the gearing system. The output rollers on the shaft are pref. driven at a higher speed, and take a direct drive. The input rollers on lineshaft and middle rollers on lineshaft have a series of gears in a relay to select the appropriate speed, and as the input shaft is driven slowly, any torsion along the frame, with a considerable number of drafting zones, is reflected most noticeably at this position. ADVANTAGE - Torsion in the driveshaft is balanced out. The sec. gearing at the far end of the frame is less complicated, and avoids distortion.
