The switching control method involves indicating the switch condition of each switch field, by detecting signals for associated switching devices, communicated to each of the other switch fields. Each of the switching commands for the different switching devices are checked to ensure that correct interlocking conditions are fulfilled. The switching commands which do not fulfil these conditions are rejected, those which do fulfil these conditions being implemented, with the switch field condition updated. Pref. the switch fields are coupled to a data network (N), each switched into an active condition in response to an acceptable switch command, the latter only implemented after cross-checking with each of the other switch fields.
