A steel sheet electroplated with an Al-Zn alloy, wherein the zinc content in the metallic coating layer ranges from 0.3 to 30 % by mass and zinc is homogeneously dispersed in the coating layer and which is excellent in phosphatability and corrosion resistance. The sheet is produced by immersing a steel sheet in a molten salt bath having a Zn to Al ratio by mass of 0.0015 to 0.03, said bath being either one comprising an alkali metal chloride, aluminum chloride and zinc chloride or one comprising aluminum chloride, an organic nitrogenous onium chloride and zinc chloride, and conducting molten salt electrolysis at a current density of 0.5 kA/m2 or above by using the sheet as a cathode.
|
