The method of assessing channel impulse response in a transmission channel involves transmitting a predetermined periodic continuous assessment sequence at the receiver. The received signal is sampled and correlated in a correlation filter. The output signal (gj) of the correlation filter is multiplied with a correction matrix (fij) in a correlation filter bank. From this, the impulse response of the channel is determined to be equal to the sum from i to j of the output signal multiplied by the correction matrix. ADVANTAGE - Channel impulse response can be accurately determined. Impulse response length is shorter compared to periodic length of sequence.
