The sandwich core is composed of parallel, hollow plant stalks (3) at right angles to the deck layers (1, 2) to which they are adhered. At least one of the deck layers is of plywood or veneer and the hollow plant stalks consist of straw. The plant stalks are tightly packed together and are stuck to one another. Additional materials can be incorporated with them, and the sandwich plate has a wt. of approximately 0.15 g/cm. The plate is arched.
