New aluminium titanate ceramic of good thermal cycling resistance - contg. crystalline aluminium titanate, rutile, corundum and mullite phases

New aluminium titanate ceramic comprises (i) crystalline phase contg. 60-85% aluminium titanate phase, 10-25% rutile phase, 2-10% corundum phase and 2-10% mullite phase amd (ii) up to 5% glass phase. Aluminium titanate ceramic has compsn. (by wt. on oxide basis) 51.7-56.5% Al2O3, 40.2-45.0% TiO2, 2-5% SiO2, up to 0.04% MgO, up to 0.1% alkali components (CaO, Na2O, K2O) and pref. max. 1.0% Fe2O3. Prodn. comprises (a) producing a mixed raw material powder of compsn. as in (B), and (b) subjecting the mixed powder to moulding, drying and sintering. USE/ADVANTAGE - For cylinder head channel bushes or linings, exhaust manifold linings and equipment for catalytic waste gas treatment or catalytic reaction furnaces.
