PURPOSE:To obtain a silver halide photographic material with improved surface luster, hardenability, etc. by using a layer contg. gelatin having high jelly strength as the uppermost layer and drying the layer under specified temp. condition. CONSTITUTION:In the manufacture of a silver halide photographic material having at least one hardened layer contg. a gelatin binder as the uppermost layer on a support such as polyethylene laminated paper, gelatin having >=200g jelly strength according to the Pagi method is allowed to be contained in the layer as the binder. In a drying process after coating the layer, the layer is dried under the following conditions: considering the temp. of the m.p. of the layer at that time plus 5 deg.C to be the border, the surface temp. of the layer is adjusted to the temp. or below in the practically constant rate drying section and to the temp. or above in the reduction rate drying section.
