<p>An electro-optical control assembly for control of vehicle electrical components (28), such as radios, heaters, wipers and the like, from steering wheel-mounted switches (23a, 23b). The control assembly includes an optical signal generating assembly (26a) which produces an encoded optical signal that is transmitted across a gap (54) between the steering wheel (22) to a stationary portion (39) of the vehicle. An optical collector, preferably an annular lens (58), receives the optical signal which is transmitted by fiber optic bundle (41) to an optical signal decoder (26b). The decoder (26b) is electrically coupled to a power distribution assembly (27), usually relay drivers (35) and relays (40) which actuate or change the function of the controlled vehicle component (28). <IMAGE></p> |
