WATER BARRIER MATERIAL AND CABLE MADE THEREFROM

A water barrier material which comprises a specified water-insoluble and flexible rubbery binder (5) and highly water-absorbent polymer particles (4) having a specified diameter, is constituted of a coating layer (2) having a specified density and a solid support (3) holding the layer (2), and satisfies at least the following requirements: 1) the density of the coating layer is 0.65 to 1.00 g/cm<3>, 2) the weight ratio of the polymer particles to the rubbery binder as the major constituents (90 wt % or above) of the coating layer is 50-90 : 50-10 by wt %, and 3) 55 to 95 wt % of the polymer particles having diameters of 45 to 425 mu m.
