SEPARATION BY PRECIPITATION OF RADIOACTIVE IODINE COMPOUND

PURPOSE:To precipitate radioactive iodine compound efficiently and enable separating from waste liquid by adding proper amount of both reducer and silver nitrate to the waste liquid kept at a specified temperature. CONSTITUTION:Waste liquid from nuclear power related facilities is gathered in a reservoir tank 10 and is supplied to a reaction vessel 12. The reaction vessel 12 has a heating and conserving mechanism 14 to maintain the waste liquid temperature at 20 to 80 deg.C and a stirring mechanism 16 to mix and stir the waste liquid. In the reaction vessel 12, reducer of 0.1 to 3 weight% of the waste liquid and a proper amount of silver nitrate are added. After mixing and stirring for over 0.5 hour and under 22 hours, precipitation is produced. The waste liquid processed in the reaction vessel 12 and asphalt are sent to an extruder 18 and processed by heating. The obtained solid is stored in a drum 20. The evaporated part becomes condensate in a condenser 22 and the off-gas is exhausted trough a silver zeorite filter 24 and out of a stack 26.
