PURPOSE:To provide an optical recording medium having high recording contrast and small deterioration of a reproduced light. CONSTITUTION:The optical recording medium comprises transparent substrate 1, a light reflecting layer 2, a transparent intermediate layer 3 containing polyvinyl alcohol and a light absorption layer 4 laminated in this order in such a manner that the layers 2 and 4 contain organic dye layers and the layers 2, 3 and 4 constitute multilayer optical elements exhibiting high reflectivity for an optical beam incident to the absorption layer.
