PURPOSE:To shorten the time for detecting whether a copied document is a color document or a black/white document in the ADF mode by utilizing a return operation of a scanner after document scanning so as to discriminate the type of a succeeding document. CONSTITUTION:In the case of the ADF (automatic document feeder) 3 mode, after a succeeding document is set, while a scanner is returned, it is turned on, a document reflecting light is received by an RGB sensor 14 receiving light for each of R, G, B colors, whether the document is a color document or a black/white document is discriminated based on an output of the RGB sensor 14. Then in the case of the mode when the document is set manually on a table glass 2, after the document is set onto the table glass 2, the scanner is turned on while being moved in the feed direction, the document return light is received by the RGB sensor and the document is discriminated based on an output of the RGB sensor 14. Thus, in the case of the ADF mode, the return operation of the copy process is utilized to discriminate the type of the document. |
